Douglas Fairbanks Jr. - (Actor) Fairbanks joined the Naval Reserves before WWII. In 1941, FDR appointed him Special Envoy to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay. Later that year, he was called to active U.S. Navy service. He served aboard the Battleship Massachusetts. In 1943, he trained and led commando units to conduct tactical cover, diversionary and deception missions. He convinced the Navy to create the Beach Jumpers. The unit was led by Fairbanks. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations for bravery and innovation. He retired from the reserves, years later, as a full Captain.
