Elvis Presley - (The King of Rock ‘n' Roll) - Elvis Presley remains one of the best-selling and most influential artists in the history of popular music. Elvis' musical innovation of mixing "black" and "white" sounds, made him popular-and controversial-as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. Presley, with his versatile voice, had unusually wide success encompassing gospel, blues, ballads and pop. By the 1960s, Presley had already made thirty-three movies. Throughout his career, he set records for concert attendance, television ratings and recordings sales. But before he became the only performer to have been inducted into four music halls of fame, Elvis was inducted into the US Army. On March 24, 1958, Presley was inducted as US Army private #53310761 and completed basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, before being posted to Friedberg, Germany with the 3rd Armored Division. Presley was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant on March 5, 1960.
