Congressional Bills Designed to Expand TRICARE Benefits

Congress supports our military by introducing bills that are designed to support all areas of your military life. In the area of health care, Congress has proposed and passed these bills designed to expand the TRICARE health insurance benefits available to all military servicemembers.

S. 3371: TRICARE MENTAL HEALTH CARE ACCESS ACT
Introduced May 13, 2010

Amending U.S. Code title 10, TRICARE Mental Health Care Access Act is intended to increase military service members' access to psychological counseling through TRICARE programs. TRICARE Mental Health Care Access Act authorizes referrals to certified mental health physicians for military personnel, spouses, and dependents, as long as the military service member has served on active duty for over 30 days.

S. 3201: TRICARE DEPENDENT COVERAGE EXTENSION ACT
Introduced April 14, 2010

Amending U.S. Code title 10, TRICARE Dependent Coverage Extension Act is intended to expand the eligibility for military dependents under age 26 in the TRICARE health plan system. In order to be eligible, TRICARE Dependent Coverage Extension Act states that the child must be under 26 years of age, not eligible for employer-sponsored health benefits, and must be in legal custody of and residing with a military service member enrolled in TRICARE.

H.R. 806: TRICARE MAIL-ORDER PHARMACY PILOT PROGRAM ACT
Introduced February 3, 2009

TRICARE Mail-Order Pharmacy Pilot Program Act tests the efficacy of a mail-order pharmacy program for military service members. The proposed pilot program will include education for TRICARE beneficiaries about mail-order pharmacy services. The TRICARE Mail-Order Pharmacy Pilot Program requires participation from 2,000 eligible military beneficiaries in each TRICARE region, with at least half enrolled in Medicare Part B.

H.R. 1600: PROVIDING FOR AUTISM TREATMENT UNDER TRICARE
Introduced March 18, 2009

Amending U.S. Code Title 10, this bill is intended to expand TRICARE coverage to authorized treatment of the wide variety of autism spectrum disorders, with authorization from a health care professional.

S. 731: CONTINUITY OF TRICARE STANDARD COVERAGE FOR RETIRED RESERVE
Introduced March 26, 2009

Amending U.S. Code title 10, Continuity of TRICARE Standard Coverage for Retired Reserve is intended to include members of the military Retired Reserve under age 60 in TRICARE managed health programs. This extended service terminates when the eligible military service member turns 60, as he or she is then eligible for standard retirement TRICARE coverage, which includes immediate family members.
