Financial Awareness and Protection for Military Consumers

Overextended debt has always been a problem for military service member. Holly Patraeus is offering solutions with military consumer programs and financial awareness programs for soldiers and their families.

Spurred on by military people seeking greater protection from scammers, Holly Petraeus addresses the biggest military consumer concerns including aggressive marketing by for-profit colleges, abuses by payday lenders, internet-based loan sharks and product scammers including those with bogus cars and other high ticket items or sale.

Petraeus, wife of retired Army Gen. David Petraeus, commander of allied forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, and director of the Central Intelligence Agency, has spent her entire life in the military. Her father, William A. Knowlton, was a four-star Army general. Her son is a soldier so Holly Petraeus is also a military mom.

Patraeus expresses her concern that more military service members are looking for loans on the Internet where it's very hard to know who exactly you're dealing with.

And many websites promising easy loans actually exist only to create leads for unidentified, nonreputable entities and persons with money to lend.

Petraeus cautioned military service members and their families that having confidence navigating the Internet "doesn't mean you'll recognize an Internet scam.

And there are plenty of scams that prey on the military; everything from home loans, to payday lenders, to auto loans and more.

Petraeus aims to educate and empower soldiers and their families to make better financial decisions. Her office also monitors military consumer complaints and the responses they get from CFPB and government agencies. And Patraeus' office coordinates all federal and state consumer protection efforts on behalf of military personnel and their families.

It's always safest to deal directly with a lender that specializes in working with the military and seeking recommendations and references from other military service members to find a reputable lender. Your military status gives you access to lenders who specialize in helping you with your financial needs, incliuding reasonable loans.

And you deserve special treatment, not scams.
