Will Sequestration Cut Wounded Warrior Programs?

Budget sequestration, which will cause widespread cuts in military programs, are not scheduled to eliminate Wounded Warrior programs...at least for 2013.

But many wounded warrior programs will feel the impact.

The many benefits of the military Wounded Warrior programs for returning soldiers are well documented and planned to remain protected.

However, there is a catch: the civilian workers in these programs may be subject to furlough.

The sequester, which begin phasing in to full effect starting in 2014 has scheduled more than $500 billion in program cuts to the military

Support for wounded warriors and their families is provided through several different programs, including military health care, the Army Wounded Warrior Program, Marine for Life, and Navy Safe Harbor.

And while the programs themselves will remain intact, many of these programs are staffed by civilians, who will be furloughed.

Army officials aim to protect the civilians supporting the disability evaluation process for wounded warriors from furlough. Other civilan workers at these programs may not escape furlough.

Just how much wounded warriors and their families will be affected will continue to unfold throughout years of implementing the budget sequestration.
